September 28th was an exciting day for So family. It was the first event for the So family Kid’s Series and it was a Leap Frog LeapReader party. I invited New York City kids and their parents to experience the new LeapReader at the TriBeCa Early Childhood Learning Center. We had an amazing turnout with over 15 excited children. The kids came in with huge smiles on their faces once they saw the overwhelming amount of Leap Frog products we had ready for them to try. Since the main goal of the day was to get the children using the LeapReader I decided to create 3 tables to represent the 3 main functions of the device. There was a Reading table, Listening table and writing table. The children and parents were allowed to move around from table to table and try each function of the LeapReader. It was extremely important for the parents to be a part of the experience as well. The So family team encouraged the parents to sit with their children and interact with the LeapReader as well.

Since it was a party we had to add some games and dancing on the agenda as well. I lead the kids in a freeze dance and I can’t forget to mention the 3D Monster’s University book I read to the kids too. Leap Frog sent over 3D glasses to go with the 3D book. Those glasses were a hit with the kids. We created a reading circle and everyone was engaged in the story. I had the most amazing time at the party doing what I love the most, educating. Learning and fun definitely go hand in hand with the LeapReader. We experienced that on Saturday.

Some of my favorite functions of the LeapReader are the sounding out of words, letter identification and the new writing function. This is a great tool for not only at home or on-the-go, it’s also great for teachers to use with students one on one and in small groups. As a teacher whose always on the go from school to school this LeapReader fits perfectly in my bag and is easy to transport to my one on one sessions with my students. I’m excited to introduce it to my students this week.
